The Ho Chi Minh Campaign – A Decisive Historical Mark
On April 14, 1975, the Politburo decided to launch the Saigon-Gia Dinh Liberation Campaign, named the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. This campaign fully accomplished the objective of “Fight until the Americans leave, fight until the puppet regime falls” as President Ho Chi Minh had clearly indicated. The results were:
・Complete liberation of South Vietnam
・End of 21 years of national division
・Preservation of territorial sovereignty on land, airspace, and sea
・Leading our nation into an era of independence – peace – development
Factors Contributing to the Great Victory
The victory of the Vietnamese nation, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, was the combined result of many factors:
1. The correct leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh
With an independent – self-reliant – creative political and military strategy, the Party led the entire nation to victory.
2. National traditions and patriotic spirit
Four thousand years of nation building and defense formed the foundation for unyielding will and the spirit that “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.”
3. The strength of the entire population and armed forces
The brave, intelligent struggle of the entire people, with the three types of armed forces as the core, played a decisive role.
4. International solidarity and support from friends across Five Continents
Strong support from revolutionary movements and world peace initiatives, along with the alliance of three Indochinese Countries, was an important resource.
The Immortal Spirit of April 30 – Pride and Responsibility of Today’s Generation
Fifty years have passed, but the spirit of the Great Spring Victory of 1975 continues to live forever in the hearts of Vietnamese people.
