1. Historical significance of September 2nd
On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) and declared to the world: “The Vietnamese people have the right to freedom and independence, and in fact have become a free and independent nation. The entire Vietnamese nation is determined to dedicate all its spirit and strength, life and property, to firmly uphold this right to freedom and independence.”
Since the autumn of the 1945 Revolution, with the spirit of “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” the Vietnamese people have courageously and resiliently endured numerous arduous and fierce campaigns, sacrificing millions of outstanding sons and daughters to liberate the nation, unify the country, and build and protect the homeland. The year 2025 is a special occasion as the entire country commemorates the 80th National Day, a significant milestone that reflects the enduring perseverance, pride, and unity of the nation over eight decades.
❤️ Background of the Declaration of Independence
– August 22, 1945: President Ho Chi Minh departed from Tan Trao to Hanoi.
– August 25, 1945: Ho Chi Minh, along with the National Liberation Committee, arrived in Hanoi. He stayed at No. 48 Hang Ngang Street, the residence of the nationalist bourgeois Trinh Van Bo.
– Night of August 28, 1945: Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, began drafting the Declaration of Independence at No. 48 Hang Ngang Street.
– August 31, 1945: President Ho Chi Minh reviewed and made additions to the draft of the Declaration of Independence.
– Afternoon of September 2, 1945: Chairman Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, officially founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

2. Key activities to celebrate National Day 2025
🪄 The celebration, military parade, and procession commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution’s success and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam will include the following main events: traditional torch relay, flag-raising ceremony, announcement of the occasion, introduction of delegates, speeches by Party and State leaders, and a military parade and procession featuring:
👉 Scale: National level, with the participation of approximately 30,000 people (excluding parade and procession forces) along with armed forces and mass organizations. The parade will include marching contingents from 5 invited foreign countries.
👉 Location: Centered at Ba Dinh Square, followed by a procession along key central streets such as Hung Vuong, Hoang Dieu, Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, and others.
👉 Time: From 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
🕹️ Spectacular Fireworks – Welcoming the Sacred Moment
On the evening of September 2nd, Hanoi will host fireworks displays at five major locations: Hoan Kiem Lake, My Dinh Stadium, Thong Nhat Park, West Lake, and Van Quan Lake.
Fireworks will also be organized in all 34 provinces and cities to celebrate National Day, alongside other cultural activities designed to create a joyful and inspiring atmosphere throughout society.
Among these, Ho Chi Minh City will stand out with a special artistic program and a live broadcast event on the evening of September 2, 2025, themed “Commemorating 80 Years of the August Revolution, National Day September 2nd, and Saigon Uprising Day,” combined with high-altitude and low-altitude artistic fireworks from 9:00 PM to 9:15 PM.

In Hanoi, an LED screen system and 400 loudspeakers will be installed to allow residents and visitors to follow the event, including:
– 11 locations along 3 parade routes (14 LED screens)
– 6 gateways to the capital (7 LED screens)
– 136 public venues (cultural houses, schools, stadiums, etc.)
– An additional 127 LED screens mobilized from businesses
– 400 loudspeakers covering the approximately 10 km procession route, with sound levels of 80–90 dB

Special Art Performance: 8:10 PM on September 1, 2025, at My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi (live broadcast on VTV1, Vietnam Television).
Live Television Broadcasts connecting three major cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hue (live on VTV1, Vietnam Television).
Political-Artistic Program: “I Am Vietnamese”.
Propaganda Poster Contest on the celebration theme.
Online Contest: “Proud to Be Vietnamese”.
Exhibition of Large Lacquer Paintings: “Spring of Independence”.

⭐️Simultaneous groundbreaking and inauguration of 250 projects nationwide to celebrate National Day September 2
On August 19, 2025, across 34 provinces and cities nationwide, ceremonies were held to inaugurate and commence 250 key projects and constructions such as: O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant in Can Tho, Housing Project within the Trade Union Complex at An Nghiep Industrial Park, Can Tho, Yen Binh 2 Industrial Park in Thai Nguyen, Phase 2 of Nghe An Oncology Hospital, National Sports Training Center Project in Da Lat… This is an important activity to acknowledge infrastructure development, promote socio-economic growth, and honor the cultural and historical values of the nation. The event is not only a major celebration but also an opportunity to inspire spirit and aspiration for contribution, creating motivation and momentum for the country’s development journey.

⚡️Holiday schedule
In 2025, officials, public servants, employees of administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (civil servants and public employees) will have a holiday for National Day from Saturday, August 30, 2025, to the end of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, according to the Gregorian calendar. This holiday period includes 2 days of National Day holiday and 2 weekend days.

The 80-year journey of independence – freedom – and happiness of Vietnam has become a glorious historical current, deeply proud. This milestone honors the great achievements of the nation in the cause of national liberation, country reunification, construction, and defense, as well as in the current process of renovation and development.
