Ministry of Home Affairs releases official Tet holiday schedule for 2026

The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially announced the 2026 Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) holiday schedule.

Following the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an official notice to all administrative agencies, political and social organizations, and enterprises regarding the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule.

Detailed holiday schedule

According to regulations, government officers, officials, and employees in the public sector will have five official Tet days off:
– 1 day before Tet, and
– 4 days after Tet.

From Monday, February 16, 2026 (29th December, Year of the Snake)
to Friday, February 20, 2026 (4th January, Year of the Horse)

Including adjacent weekends, employees will enjoy a total of 9 days off – from February 14 to February 22, 2026.
📌 This provides an ideal opportunity for family reunions, travel, and relaxation.

Guidelines for agencies and enterprises

The Ministry requests that:
– Agencies ensure smooth operations during the holiday period by assigning staff on duty as needed.
– Designate responsible personnel to handle any urgent matters arising during the Tet break.

Private sector flexibility

Enterprises outside the public sector may choose one of the following options:

– 1 day off at the end of the old year + 4 days at the beginning of the new year
– 2 days off at the end of the old year + 3 days at the beginning of the new year
– 3 days off at the end of the old year + 2 days at the beginning of the new year

Employers must notify their employees of the selected schedule at least 30 days in advance.

👉 The Ministry encourages private companies to adopt similar schedules to public offices and offer more favorable conditions for employees.

Ensuring stability of goods and prices during the Tet holiday

The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested local authorities and relevant agencies to:

– Proactively develop plans to stabilize the market,
– Ensure a balanced supply and demand of goods and services with reasonable prices,
– Promote economic growth and encourage saving before, during, and after the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday.
