Vietnam Tet Holiday 2027: 7-Day Break & 3 Options for Businesses

Date: 2026.11.04

Vietnam’s 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday has officially been confirmed to last 7 consecutive days, from February 4 to February 10, 2027, following approval by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra.

However, for businesses, employers may choose a Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday schedule that suits their actual operating conditions while ensuring employees’ rights and benefits in accordance with the law.

1. Official Tet Holiday Schedule for 2027

Under the approved plan, civil servants and public-sector employees will observe the 2027 Tet holiday as follows:

    – Holiday begins: Thursday, February 4, 2027 (28th day of the 12th lunar month).

    – Holiday ends: Wednesday, February 10, 2027 (5th day of the 1st lunar month).

    – Return to work: Thursday, February 11, 2027.

    – Total holiday duration: 7 consecutive days, including 5 statutory Tet holidays and 2 compensatory days off.

    2. Why Does the 2027 Tet Holiday Last 7 Days?

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs, scheduling two days off before Tet allows employees working far from their hometowns more time to travel, shop, and prepare for the Lunar New Year.

This arrangement also aims to reduce traffic congestion before Tet, provide sufficient time for family reunions, and minimize disruptions to production and business activities after the holiday.

      3. Are Private Companies Required to Provide 7 Days Off for Tet?

Under Article 112 of Vietnam’s 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 5 days of paid leave for the Lunar New Year holiday.

For employees who are not subject to the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday schedule applicable to government agencies, employers may select a holiday arrangement that suits their actual business conditions.

Specifically, businesses may choose one of the following three options:

        – Option 1: One day at the end of the Year of the Horse and four days at the beginning of the Year of the Goat, corresponding to February 5–9, 2027.

        – Option 2: Two days at the end of the Year of the Horse and three days at the beginning of the Year of the Goat, corresponding to February 4–8, 2027.

        – Option 3: Three days at the end of the Year of the Horse and two days at the beginning of the Year of the Goat, corresponding to February 3–7, 2027.

When establishing the Tet holiday schedule, businesses must ensure that:

        – Employees receive at least five days of fully paid Tet holidays as prescribed by law.

        – Weekly rest days and compensatory days off (if applicable) are arranged in compliance with legal regulations.

        – The holiday schedule allows employees sufficient time to prepare for Tet while remaining suitable for the company’s actual production and business operations.

Therefore, businesses are not required to follow the same seven-day holiday schedule from February 4 to February 10, 2027, as government agencies. However, they must fully comply with statutory holiday entitlements, wage-related rights, and weekly rest day requirements.

Businesses are encouraged to announce their Tet holiday schedules in advance, arrange staffing appropriately, and complete necessary administrative and accounting tasks before the holiday to ensure smooth and stable operations.

        4. Conclusion

The 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday for the public sector will run from February 4 to February 10, 2027. For businesses, employers may select one of the three recommended holiday arrangements based on their actual operating conditions, while ensuring employees’ rights and benefits in accordance with Vietnamese law.

Proactively planning and announcing the Tet holiday schedule enables businesses to arrange staffing effectively, maintain business operations, and provide employees with sufficient time to prepare for the New Year.
